Darfur: A Decade Later, Civilians Still Dying

girl-w-babiesTen years ago the Government of Sudan began carrying out a genocide against civilians in Darfur, killing over 300,000 and displacing two million Darfuri citizens.

Today, the killing continues and is not only targeted at the people of Darfur, but across Sudan particularly those in the surrounding states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile – putting the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians at risk every day.

The international community’s failure to respond to this continuing crisis has left little hope for those under attack. Tell the international community that those in Darfur and across Sudan are not forgotten – stop the killing in Darfur and all of Sudan.

Dear UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, member States of the UN Security Council and the African Union,

Ten years ago the Government of Sudan began a genocide in Darfur. A decade later the suffering in Darfur is not over and neither should be the outcry and global efforts for peace, justice, and relief.

As concerned citizens of the world, we call on you to expend all resources at your disposal to bring an end to the suffering in Darfur and other areas under attack including Blue Nile and South Kordofan; urgently address the humanitarian crisis; bring those accountable for human rights crimes to justice; and protect the vulnerable to bring a just and lasting peace to Darfur and all of Sudan.

Thank you,
