Ending impunity for perpetrators of genocide and mass atrocities and providing measures of justice to survivors is essential for creating peace and preventing future genocides. The international community must help bring perpetrators to justice regardless of how many obstacles need to be overcome or how much time it takes.
Should a nation fail to protect its citizens from mass killings, either intentionally or through inability to act, it is the internationally community’s responsibility to protect the citizens being affected. these principles, which were agreed upon by the United States and other nations and ratified by the United Nations as the Responsibility to Protect (or R2P) Doctrine.
