United to End Genocide is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the world's worst crime by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. Internships are available for undergraduate, graduate students or recent graduates who are available for at least 20 to 40 hours per week for duration of at least 2-3 months. Internship Program Areas include:

Design Internship

The design intern is tasked with creating original and reworking existing graphic designs for United to End Genocide, including infographics, web page and email layouts, and other branding, informational and marketing materials.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Design of promotional, educational, and resource materials
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with UEG staff on the design of our websites.
  • Create digital assets for social media channels

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Photoshop (or Fireworks)
  • Highly capable of managing deadlines and producing deliverables on time
  • Understanding of marketing concepts and nonprofits preferred

Helpful Experience:

  • Previous experience building web pages and logo designs
  • Demonstrated ability to create multiple original design options
  • Academic background and/or experience in graphic design preferred

Communications Internship

We're looking for a go-getter who can contribute to the voice of United to End Genocide. You will work with our Communications team to generate new content for our blog, as well as draft press releases and other outgoing communications. This position requires an organized self-starter that will enjoy a lot of writing, research, reporting and strategizing.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Writing weekly copy for United to End Genocide's blog
  • Tracking and monitoring media hits surrounding United to End Genocide's initiatives
  • Building and maintaining media lists for outreach
  • Drafting press releases/media advisories
  • Assisting with communications projects as directed by the communications manager

Qualifications:

  • Passion for ending mass atrocities throughout the world
  • Background in communications, media relations, or public policy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong research and writing skills

Development Internship

United to End Genocide is looking for a highly motivated college student to join our Development Team! The Development Intern will work closely with the executive team and development staff to create strategic and innovative fundraising campaigns and to implement and manage internal administrative systems. This internship provides a fantastic opportunity for a student to gain practical, hands-on experience in one of the most crucial functions of the nonprofit sector. As a development intern, you will participate in every aspect of a dynamic, multi-faceted development operation, including online fundraising, direct mail, major donor outreach, foundation cultivation, and event planning. You will receive extensive training in common fundraising approaches and tactics, including the use of Salesforce CRM, Convio Luminate and Foundation Directory Online, and participate in professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain development database entry and system management. Intern will leave with working knowledge of Salesforce.com and Convio Luminate.
  • Research to identify prospective foundation, corporate and individual supporters using common development industry tools and tactics. Strategize with development team on best outreach and cultivation methods.
  • Support donation entry and tracking process. Draft donor acknowledgments and other correspondence to cultivate relationships with high-level donor and foundation supporters.
  • Seek out, implement and manage small-scale development campaigns. Advise grassroots fundraising with material support.
  • Provide support on grant management, including foundation research, meeting preparation, proposal and report tracking and submission, and foundation officer relations.
  • Analyze donation metrics and report back to the team on donor trends in direct mail, online and major gift giving.
  • Become familiar with all programmatic aspects of the organization and be able to respond to inquiries about the organization and the fundraising operation.

Helpful Experience:

  • Passion for human rights, international relations, advocacy, fundraising, nonprofit management, and/or organizational development.
  • Previous experience in fundraising, grant writing, research and/or advocacy.
  • An excellent verbal and written command of English. Strong online research skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including mail merge tools and Excel formulas.
  • Experience with a CRM data management system highly desirable.

Policy/Government Relations Internship

The Policy Department of United to End Genocide seeks a highly motivated and independent college student, recent graduate, graduate student to assist with research and policy initiatives. In the past, the Policy Intern has conducted research on a variety of issues, including treaties and emerging conflicts, attended congressional hearings and expert meetings, and assisted in the creation of a comprehensive risk assessment and conflict classification model that is to be used by the larger organization. The Intern will also synthesize news sources coming out of conflict areas around the world.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitor news and synthesize media reports on areas of concern for the team.
  • Blogging for United to End Genocide's website
  • Long-term research projects on various armed conflicts where civilians are being targeted on a disproportionately large scale
  • Regular conflict monitoring and analysis to assist research associates with determining United to End Genocide's involvement in emerging conflicts
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the Policy Team

Helpful Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences
  • Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are essential, and experience using Microsoft Excel and editing web content is particularly helpful
  • Interest and experience in human rights advocacy is desirable, particularly related to genocide, mass atrocities, the conflicts in Sudan, Syria, Burma and other areas of concern
  • Relevant coursework is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with the U.S. legislative process and foreign policy in particular are helpful
  • Professional, well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable
  • Arabic and / or French knowledge is a plus

Video Production / Editing Internship

We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating dynamic videos and has great storytelling skills. This position is an exceptional opportunity for individuals to produce and distribute original content and build up his or her video portfolio and gain experience in a non-profit setting.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Creating videos for educations and promotional purposes
  • Edit raw video footage into short promotional videos
  • Producing and managing video shoots
  • Archive past footage
  • Audio production and editing of on-camera interviews, voiceovers and music.
  • Additional technical tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Excellent storyboarding and narrative skills
  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere for in-house edits)
  • Ability to figure out new programs quickly and troubleshoot on the fly
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a sense of humor

Social Media Internship

United to End Genocide is looking for a social media intern for the Spring 2013 semester who will assist the organization with its social media strategy, expansion, and output. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, tech-savvy individual that is passionate about preventing and ending genocide and mass atrocities worldwide.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage social media accounts and keep content consistent, relevant and updated
  • Retain, grow and develop accounts through daily interaction with supporters and like-minded organizations
  • Use monitoring tools to measure the impact of social media on the website traffic
  • Find and cultivate social media contacts
  • Stay on the cutting edge of advertising and content opportunities across the web

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in social media
  • Attention to detail
  • Written communication and time management skills
  • Quick learner, proactive person with strong interpersonal skills

Global Partnerships and Advocacy Internship

The global partnerships and advocacy intern will coordinate and implement international and grassroots advocacy and partner outreach.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate meetings and communicate with international and US based partner organizations
  • Attend partner meetings and advocacy events on behalf of the global partnerships team
  • Draft, edit and update advocacy-related content for United to End Genocide
  • Blogging for United to End Genocide's priority campaigns
  • Assist in planning outreach strategy

Qualifications:

  • Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are essential
